Alyssa Thomas

Registered Dietitian

she/her

I spent my entire adolescence and young adulthood fighting with food and with my body at the insistence of those profiting off the struggles. I became a registered dietitian after finding freedom from this fight and wanting to fight instead against inequities related to food, nutrition, and health that are built into our society. I have a strong desire to help others improve their relationship with food and explore all that it can do for our bodies, souls, and communities when disordered eating and chronic dieting are not at play.

My background in public health has taught me to consider the impact of the many contexts in which we exist and experience the world: individual, familial, cultural, social, environmental, etc. I am committed to serving you from a place that addresses these contexts and encourages your marginalized identities to take up space. By acknowledging the many systems of oppression at play and continually working to resist and dismantle them, I hope to meet you in a safe, just, and equitable space in which you feel liberated and empowered.

Being trained as a dietitian, I know a lot about food and the body. However, I believe that you are the expert in your life and your body. My role in nutrition counseling is to show up for you in the ways that you need me to, and to work with you towards a peaceful, satisfying, and nourishing relationship with food.

My work with clients is rooted in warm compassion, nonjudgmental curiosity, and thoughtful collaboration. While I am not perfect, I am constantly learning (and often unlearning) in order to be a better dietitian and human. I aim to support folx in all stages of life and have a special passion for working with pregnant/postpartum people, adolescents, and families.

Outside of counseling, I work with the Colorado WIC program and also do work to help diversify the field of nutrition and dietetics. To keep my cup full, I recharge with all the goodness of the outdoors – hiking in the summer, snowboarding in the winter, and chasing golden hour in between. I like to wind down with books, yoga, and music (either with moving lyrics or a fun beat to move to). Baking and photography are my creative releases, and spending time with friends, family, and my dog Jelly feeds my soul.

**My education and licensure: I graduated with degrees in Psychology and Public Health Nutrition/Dietetics. I have been a Registered Dietitian (CDR #86148617) since September of 2020.
